GSO does offer a linear track focuser which seems to be an upgrade to controlling slippage, but I have no first hand experience as to actual performance. I would second that on the Moonlite.

On the night of imaging, I allowed the scope to cool down for a couple of hours to avoid thermal tube currents. WebJul 21, 2008 · It's pretty good, I haven't seen any issues with photographing the moon, and it's pretty darned flat in terrestrial tests (closer than infinitey). If you're interested in terrestrial photography, this is a great way to get a 950mm F/7.5 (or 775mm F/6.3 with the TV flattener) telephoto equivelant manual focus lens. WebThe Moonlite SCT focuser is even nicer than the Newtonian version with big chunky fittings. A rotation ring to allow the focuser to rotate around which works beauatifully with almost zero image shift and the shaft lock feature which securely locks the focuser. This is more for imaging than a visual observer but I thought it a feature worth having.

Trying to do planetary imaging with the standard focuser is nigh on impossible. you will need to leave the original focuser as-is as the mirror will still need to be racked in and out when you add barlows/diagonals/cameras.
